Welcome Dundee Ice Skating Club
The Dundee Ice Arena opened in the year 2000, established skaters moved to Dundee with coaches Simon and Debi Briggs, and within a few weeks, development programmes and learn to skate were set up. Figure skaters from the old rink were by this time parents themselves and had children of their own who also become involved in the activities at the new Ice Arena. Shortly after opening it was agreed that a figure skating club and dance club should be formed, a constitution was drawn up and agreed. Working with the arena manger and Debi Briggs, the club set up its own development programme, club nights were established and group tuition was arranged and within a short period, the first spin spiral competition was held. Mary Anderson, who lives locally, was an official judge on the NISA panel assisted in the set up of the competitions, a year later Mary was made the first honorary life member of the club. The club produced a 5 year development plan which was presented to Sport For All and a grant to help its implementation was received, the plan was achieved in a remarkable 3 years with the club holding its first annual event and its first open competition which attracted over 200 entries. With the support of the members of the old rink the club was able to locate some of the old trophies that had been competed for by some parents of the children that now skate at the new rink. One of the oldest trophies being the Louise Meotti trophy dated back to the 1940's and is now listed as an antique. A competition was held to design a new club logo, this was won by Kristie Robertson and is now used as the official club logo. The development of our skaters has been exceptional, the club skaters and coaching staff are proud that in only 5 years after opening we have had 7 entries in the British Championships and had skaters selected by NISAto represent GB
